Applause Entertainment Studios will join forces with Bend It Film & TV and Locomotive Global to create Seeker, a new Indian drama. Gurinder Chadha (Bride and Prejudice) of Bend It and Sunder Aaron (The Good Friday) of Locomotive will oversee the project, according to Deadline.
With the project in early stages, Seeker is planned as a multi-season drama about the peaks and pitfalls of life as an Indian guru. As described by Deadline, the show will showcase a well-intentioned man and the complications of fame he experiences while running his empire.
Although there is not casting information yet, the producers aim to diversify the series with a multi-national writers’ room and a casting call for Indian and other international actors across varying locations.
Chadha’s previous work on Bend It Like Beckham and Blinded by the Light led her to produce her first Netflix series last year titled Beecham House. Her work in the international content industry has helped her continue her mission of global storytelling. “With this show, our effort is to reach the audiences across borders and I am excited about this creative collaboration with Sameer Nair and his team at Applause along with Sunder Aaron,” via Deadline.
As Applause Entertainment’s name grows in the industry, partly to the Indian remake of The Office starring Mukul Chadda (I, Me aur Main), Gopal Dutt (Delhi Crime) and Sayandeep Sengupta (Chitrakut), collaborations are more sought after. Sameer Nair, CEO of Applause Entertainment told Deadline he was “thrilled to announce our collaboration with Gurinder Chadha and Sunder Aaron. Gurinder is a great storyteller, touching audiences over the years with her fun, heartwarming and true to life portrayals of the human condition.”
Locomotive Global will also make a strong addition to the project as a developer, producer and distributior of Indian-themed TV for international markers. Via Deadline, Aaron said, “We are excited to be part of their mission to tell stories that also make waves around the world.”
