A new series about the world’s most well known reptilian monster, Godzilla, is coming to Apple TV+. Via Comicbook, the show titled Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, “will be taking a step back in the timeline to explore more of how humanity reacted to finding out about Godzilla and the Titans in the first place.”
Stars of the show include Wyatt Russell (22 Jump Street), father Kurt Russell (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Anna Sawai (Pachinko), Kiersey Clemons (Flatliners), Mari Yamamoto (Kate), Ren Watabe (461 Days of Bento), Joe Tippett (Mare of Easttown), Elisa Lasowski (Hyena), and Anders Holm (How to be Single). A release date has not been publicly announced yet, but there will be 10 episodes coming to the streaming platform once the show is released. The show in the MonsterVerse series is still underway, but the episodes will follow two siblings as they explore mysteries of the Titans and the connection their father has to the Monarch organization. According to Comicbook, “Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950’s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows.”
The show is produced by Legendary Television, and was co-developed by Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye), with Matt Shakman (WandaVision) directing the first two episodes of the series. Producers from Safehouse Pictures, Joby Harold (Awake) and Tory Tunnell (My Blind Brother) are also attached to the project. Brad Van Arrragon (Juno), Andrew Colville (Severance), Andy Goddard (Carnival Row), Hiro Matsuoka (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), and Takemasa Arita with no previous credits, are executive producers from Toho Co. Tld, a Japanese entertainment company and owner of the character Godzilla.
In addition to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Godzilla fans have plenty to look forward to with the release of the new movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire coming to theaters in March of 2024.
