The New Girl tagline “adorkable” is officially entered into the Collins English Dictionary.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the term was thought up by Shannon Ryan, Fox Executive VP Marketing and Communications. There was a contest held on Twitter and the new word was announced on June 10. Adorkable is defined as “socially inept or unfashionable in a charming or endearing way.”
“It was a word some friends and I made up in high school to describe all our nerd crushes,” Ryan said. “I threw it out in an early marketing strategy meeting and it just kind of stuck.”
Fox Networking Group CEO, Peter Rice, announced the news with an email subject header stating: “Adorkable is a real word now and it’s all your fault.” In addition to this Ryan also introduced the term “celebutante” when promoting The Simple Life.
