Thirty years after the original Ghostbusters hit the big screen, the reboot of the ghostly comedy will star all female leads. SNL is taking over Ghostbusters as Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate Mckinnon, along with comedienne Melissa McCarthy are in negotiations to take on the roles made famous by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. The new version will be directed by Paul Feig, who was confident enough about their signing to tweet their pictures in connection with the film.
Feig is no stranger to strong female comedy, or two of the actors. His credits include Bridesmaids starring Kristen Wiig and The Heat with Melissa McCarthy. According to The Huffington Post, Feig is working on the screenplay with The Heat writer Katie Dippold. Feig confirmed he would direct the film back in October and couldn’t be more excited to give it a new twist saying, “I love the first one so much I don’t want to do anything to ruin the memory of that. So it just felt like, let’s just restart it because then we can have new dynamics.”
Ghostbusters will begin filming this summer and is set to hit theaters July 22, 2016.
