Deadline has reported that the Executive Chairman and CEO of Fox Corporation, Lachlan Murdoch, has announced on a call with analysts that his new streaming service he has been alluding to, will be called Fox One. He claims that the service will be live before the start of fall football. This will be perfect timing as Fox One will provide access to a wealth of Fox Sports services.
As Deadline reports, the service has yet to announce its cost officially. Murdoch, on a conference call to stakeholders, gloating about strong quarterly earnings, says the cost will be healthy and in line with wholesale pricing. He continues on to talk about bundling with partners, claiming they are actively seeking out partnerships, with many already approaching for deals. It seems that none have been solidified as of yet.
CEO of Venu Sports, the joint streaming venture between ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. that was ultimately scrapped, Pete Distad, will be tapped as the head of Fox One. Murdoch continues to try and woo investors by claiming the initial projections for subscribers to the upcoming streaming platform are set to be in the millions. He also says that the service will be inclusive of all of Fox’s coveted content, including Fox Sports and Fox News.
Fox plans to bring access to all of their content through this one platform. Whether it’s live shows or on-demand access, they plan to include Fox News, Fox Business, Fox Weather, FoxSports, FS1, FS2, BTN, Fox Deportes, Fox Local Stations, and the Fox network. Not to mention an option to include the current paid streaming service, Fox Nation, which has been offering Martin Scorsese’s (Killers of the Flower Moon, Goodfellas) The Saints.
Deadline confirms that Distad goes on the record to state, “We know that FOX has the most loyal and engaged audiences in the industry, and FOX One is designed to reach outside of the pay-TV bundle and deliver all the best FOX branded content directly to viewers wherever they are,” He continues to detail his work on the platform, “We have built this platform from the ground up to allow consumers to enjoy and engage with our programming in new and exciting ways, leveraging cutting edge technology to enhance the user experience across the platform.”
