The Monarch: Legacy of Monsters YouTube channel recently released trailer for the highly anticipated second season as the production has officially begun. According to Comicbook, season one follows the journey of half-siblings Cate, played by Anna Sawai (Shogun), and Kentaro, played by Ren Watabe (461 Days of Bento), finding information on their missing father, which leads them and May, played by Kiersey Clemons (Flatliners) to meet Lee Shaw played by Kurt Russell (Sky High). The series finale ended with Cate, May and Keiko, played by Mari Yamamoto (Kate), returning from hollow Earth, where some time has passed and the Monarch is disbanded. A new organization called Apex is in charge.
According to Comicbook, the footage showcases damaged Monarch facility, its surroundings littered with the debris of a colossal battle. The most striking detail, however, is the prominent Apex Cybernetics logo emblazoned on nearby trucks. It has been announced that the location will switch to Skull Island, shifting the focus to the King Kong side of the MonsterVerse. According to an mxdwn post, the second season will introduce a new character named Isabelle, played by Amber Midthunder (Roswell, New Mexico), a powerful businesswoman who could potentially create another mechanical creature such as Mechagodzilla in Godzilla vs. Kong.
Additionally, according to Comicbook, beyond the plot and location of the second season, which is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2025, the acclaimed sci-fi series receives a new spin-off, and the first episode will be directed by Monarch’s showrunner, Chris Black (Outcast). The new season will surely introduce new titans to the franchise, such as the Ion Dragon or the Frost Vark.
While fans await further information on the release date for the second season, the entire first of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is available to stream on Apple TV+.
