New ‘Flintstones’ Series by Warner Bros. Animation and Brownstone Productions in the Works

A new Flintstones series is in the works, according to Variety. The show will be produced by Warner Bros. Animation in conjunction with Brownstone Productions. The series will be based off of the original The Flintstones series that aired on ABC back in 1960 for a 6 season run.

The original focused on Fred and Wilma Flintstone, as well as their daughter Pebbles, their pet Dino, and best friends Barney, Betty, and their son Bamm-Bamm. The new series has been described as “a primetime animated adult comedy series.” According to Deadline, the project will be based on an original idea but feature the same main characters as the original.

In the past, many versions of The Flintstones have been made, from The New Fred and Barney Show to The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show, but none have lasted nearly as long as the original. Seth MacFarlane even attempted to create a reboot with Fox, but the project was left uncompleted. A recent spinoff also flopped — a kid’s series called Yabba-Dabba Dinosaurs! that was picked up for a two-season order by Boomerang SVOD. After the first season aired, production on the series was stopped.

It is hoped that this version will fare better, especially with Elizabeth Banksrecent overall deal with Warner Bros. Television. Elizabeth Banks is the founder of Brownstone Productions, and she has been busy on multiple projects. Banks is currently developing Over My Dead Body, based off of a podcast by the same name, for WarnerMedia’s new streaming service, called HBO Max. A new version of Charlie’s Angels will also be released soon, in which Banks wrote, directed, starred in, and executive produced. Her next appearance will be in FX’s series Mrs. America

Although no network has been announced for the series, it will most likely be picked up by WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming platform HBO Max, especially in light of Bank’s connection.
