According to a Deadline exclusive, Isabel DeRoy-Olson (Fancy Dance, Under the Bridge) and Luke Barnett (The Crossing Over Express, For All Mankind) are joining AMC and AMC+’s hit psychological thriller Dark Winds for its highly anticipated fourth season. Production on the eight-episode season began recently in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with a premiere slated for 2026.

Deadline reports DeRoy-Olson will play Billie Tsosie, a determined Navajo teen navigating the dangerous terrain of freedom beyond her boarding school. Barnett steps in as FBI Special Agent Toby Shaw, a loyal bureau man drawn into a chilling mystery involving one of his closest friends. Set in 1971 on a remote Navajo Nation outpost near Monument Valley, Dark Winds follows Tribal Police Lt. Joe Leaphorn, played by Zahn McClarnon (Longmire, Westworld), as he unearths sinister connections between seemingly unrelated crimes.

According to Deadline, the third season began six months after the events of the second season. Leaphorn and Deputy Jim Chee, played by Kiowa Gordon (Blood Quantum, The Lesser Blessed), investigate the disappearance of two boys, uncovering only a bloodied patch of earth and an abandoned bicycle. Meanwhile, Jessica Matten’s (Frontier, Burden of Truth) Bernadette Manuelito, now stationed 500 miles away with the Border Patrol, stumbles upon a dark conspiracy. Her discoveries link human trafficking and drug smuggling in a web of danger with national implications.

Off-screen, DeRoy-Olson is rapidly rising, co-starring opposite Lily Gladstone (The Wedding Banquet) in Fancy Dance and appearing in Amazon’s Three Pines and HBO’s upcoming It: Welcome to Derry, via Deadline. She hails from the Trʼondëk Hwëchʼin First Nation and the Anishinaabe Ebb and Flow First Nation of Manitoba.

Deadline reports Barnett recently gained attention for his viral short film, The Crossing Over Express, and stars in the Sundance-selected Sunfish (& Other Stories on Green Lake). He also headlines the indie drama Teacher’s Pet, further diversifying his creative portfolio.

All three seasons of Dark Winds are currently streaming on AMC+
