DuckTales has put out a brand new promo featuring Donald Duck, according to Screen Rant. The new promo is short and sweet, and lets Donald Duck be the star of the show.
The first trailer put out by Disney XD showing the rebooted DuckTales characters and their antics unsurprisingly focused on Huey, Dewey, Louie, and their favorite great uncle Scrooge McDuck. Webby Vanderquack (voiced by Kate Micucci of The LEGO Batman Movie) did mention that Donald Duck is “one of the most daring adventurers of all time” and the duck is seen fighting fire and wielding a sword in exotic locals. Even with a brand new animation style, Donald Duck is unmistakable.
The new promo is only 15 seconds long, but its central focus on Donald Duck demonstrates that the DuckTales reboot will focus far more on Huey, Dewey, and Louie’s younger uncle than the original 80s and 90s cartoon. In this first cartoon series, Donald Duck must leave the rhyming nephews in Scrooge McDuck and Launchpad McQuack’s care in order to join the Navy. He shows up only rarely, but now it seems that Donald will be in for the ride more often, willing or unwilling.
The next look at the new DuckTales shows that for a moment it seems Donald Duck’s life is a dream; floating alone on a tropical boat, perhaps as a member of the Navy. But then his assumed-orphaned nephews appear and Donald Duck is catapulted though a series of strange scenes: an out of control aircraft, deep sea, a snow scene, the desert, a gator-infested swamp, a spooky cave, and more. Donald Duck’s sanity and courage begin to falter, meanwhile his niece and nephews flit in and out of the background seemingly always having a ball.
And of course, the new promo ends with a hearty “woo-oo.”
The new reboot of DuckTales is slated for summer 2017 and features Danny Pudi as Huey, Ben Schwartz as Dewey, and Bobby Moynihan as Loui. Voicing Scrooge McDuck is Doctor Who actor David Tennat, and returning as Donald Duck is Tony Anselmo who has been voicing Donald Duck since the 1980s. DuckTales has 21 half hour episodes planned and has already been renewed for a Season 2.
