New Details Revealed About Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ Crossover with HBO Max’s Gotham City P.D Series

As the world gears up to experience another take on DC’s Dark Knight, more details have been released about the spinoff series that will center on the Gotham City Police Department, according to ComicBook. Although fans most likely won’t be seeing Pattinson’s Batman make an appearance in the spinoff, it still has a lot to offer in terms of lore expansion and elaboration.

The Batman is a retelling of The Caped Crusader’s story taking place during the early stages of his career, the idea is that we get to see Robert Pattinson (Neil, Tenet) in one of his first cases against The Riddler (Paul Dano, Little Miss Sunshine) and witness how Bruce has to solve these cases before more citizens are killed. With Collin Farrell (Ray, In Bruges) cast as Oswald Cobblepot, Zoe Kravits (Angel Salvadore, X Men: First Class) as Selina Kyle, and Andy Serkis (Gollum, The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers) as Alfred Pennyworth, this film will have multiple vendettas for Bruce to keep up with.

Some sources have speculated that fans may see a familiar face from the upcoming movie. “Casey Bloys did mention it’s possible for Jeffrey Wright (Winston, Broken Flowers) to show up as Batman ally Jim Gordon,” Bloys stated according to ComicBook.

Bloys goes on to discuss how the characters within DC films and television series will no longer be treated as separate entities and that the plan is to incorporate more depth and life into the story by making the events fluid between film and television. “We don’t want to reserve characters just for films or for TV. There should be kind of some fluidity between them,” Bloys elaborated according to ComicBook.

Going forward, DC and HBO Max will be working hand in hand to create a connected universe and spinoff series that reflects that connectivity. Additionally, fans can look forward to these spinoff series having higher budgets and more in-depth story telling. Bloys also addresses the current CW Arrowverse in his statement, “Producing at a more highly-elevated level, probably more like the movies, than what CW is doing, But one of the things I would say about DC overall is [Warner Bros. Chairman] Ann Sarnoff, a big goal for her, is to really organize and coordinate the DC offering,” Bloys mentioned in his announcement according to ComicBook.

With their eyes set on creating a coherent Film to T.V universe DC fans have a lot to look forward to. In the meantime it’s up to HBO Max, Warner Media, and DC to figure out the details and deliver a thriving live action universe for audience to explore.
