New Comedy Series Helmed by Paul Feig ‘This Country’ is Headed to Fox

The new television comedy This Country is headed to Fox for the 2021-2022 television season. Helmed by master of comedy Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) and Jenny Bicks (Sex and the City), the series will depict what it’s like to be a young adult in this modern world via The Hollywood Reporter

This Country is an adaptation from the BBC series under the same name. Bicks will serve as creator and Feig is set to direct. The pair will also executive produce alongside Angie Stephenson (The Night Of), Dan Magnante (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) and Charlie and Daisy Cooper (This Country). Lionsgate TV, BBC Studios, Feigco Entertainment and Fox Entertainment will produce.

Feig has been in the television business for years, though he’s mainly known for his film career. He has directed several comedies that have been box office smashes, including Bridesmaids, The Heat, The Spy, and A Simple Favor.

With regards to television, Feig started his career by creating and writing the cult classic dramedy Freaks and Geeks, a one season wonder that ran from 1999-2000. The project starred newcomers Seth Rogen (Long Shot), James Franco (11/22/63), Linda Cardellini (Dead to Me), Busy Phillips (Cougar Town), and Jason Segel (Dispatches from Elsewhere). It also marked the beginning of a frequent partnership with Judd Apatow (Knocked Up) who produced the series. Feig also executive produced and directed episodes of the mockumentary NBC comedy The Office.

In a statement picked up by The Hollywood Reporter, Feig said: “Jenny and I are so excited to bring this amazing series to the American public. We have assembled a cast of comedic superstars who have taken the hilarious groundwork laid by Daisy and Charlie Cooper and made it their own. We can’t thank Charlie Collier, Michael Thorn and Julia Franz enough for making this comedy dream come true.” The original series was created by and starred the Coopers.

In the Fox adaptation, the series will star Chelsea Holmes (The Megan Stalter Show) and Sam Straley (The Kids Are Alright) as cousins whose lives are documented by a camera crew that follows them around their town. It will also star Aya Cash (The Boys), Taylor Ortega (Succession), and Seann William Scott (American Pie).
