The upcoming anthology series Cherish the Day from Ava DuVernay finally has a set date for its premiere on OWN. The news came just ahead of the Cherish the Day TCA panel this week, with Deadline reporting that the show will debut on February 11th and 12th.
In addition to its premiere date, Cherish the Day has also released its final trailer, which gives some insight into what viewers will be in for with this show. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay tells the story of a young couple, played by Xosha Roquemore (Mindy Project) and Alano Miller (Underground), and the twists and turns of their relationship. Cherish the Day will follow the couple over the course of five years, with each episode focusing on one day within their relationship. The trailer itself features clips of intimate moments from the couple’s relationship, including them singing together in the car, walking along the beach, and ballroom dancing together.
In addition to being the newest work from DuVernay, Cherish the Day has also made headlines for its success in providing opportunities for female creators. In November of last year, the show’s crew announced that they had achieved full gender parity; in other words, the show has 18 female department heads and production crew of over 50% women. There are also several female directors for the series, including Aurora Guerrero (13 Reasons Why, Queen Sugar) and Deborah Kampmeier (Hounddog, Queen Sugar). Warner Bros. Television’s Peter Roth, Susan Rovner and Brett Paul released a statement regarding the show’s achievement of gender parity, saying, “By achieving gender parity on her first chapter of Cherish the Day [DuVernay] continues to provide invaluable opportunities for new creative talent. It’s this kind of conviction and commitment to inclusion that will have a long-lasting and positive effect on our industry and beyond.”
Cherish the Day is executive produced by DuVernay along with Oprah Winfrey, Paul Garnes, and Tanya Hamilton. The series will debut on OWN on February 11th at 10pm, along with a second night on the 12th at 8pm. You can watch the new trailer for the series below.
