New Apple TV+’s Series ‘Surface’ Adds Gugu Mbatha-Raw to its Cast

The upcoming thriller series, Surface, on Apple TV+ has announced its newest addition to the cast in Gugu Mbatha-Raw (The Morning Show, Beauty and the Beast), according to Deadline. Surface has garnered a series order from the new Apple streaming service and hails from the mind of creator Veronica West (High Fidelity, Ugly Betty). The upcoming thriller drama series will consist of eight episodes and will be executive produced by West, Mbatha-Raw, Lauren Neustadter (Big Little Lies, Truth Be Told), and Reese Witherspoon (Legally Blonde, Big Little Lies). 

At the moment, there is a lot of unknown revolving around the plot and premise of Apple TV+ latest television project besides it will be a venture into the psychological thriller genre. However, the inclusion of Mbatha-Raw marks yet another television role for the actress in the last calendar year. Previously, Mbatha-Raw starred on the Apple TV+ hit drama series, The Morning Show, as Hannah Shoenfeld. This streaming series also featured Witherspoon in a lead role.

Additionally, the actress has also been announced as a cast member for the upcoming superhero series Loki on Disney+. Mbatha-Raw’s exact role still remains unannounced, yet she is to be the female lead in the series alongside Tom Hiddleston (The Night ManagerLoki), who will reprise his role as the titular God of Mischief. Currently, the Marvel series on the Disney streaming platform is aiming for a release in the early parts of 2021. 

There is no exact date announced for the start of the latest Apple TV+ project’s production but is expected to begin sometime in 2021.
