New ‘American Horror Story’ Promo Ties Together All Six Seasons

Another new promo has been released for American Horror Story‘s mysterious sixth season, and while it’s one of the longest teasers so far, it still raises more questions than answers.

The promo, appropriately titled “Anthology”, features imagery that references the past five seasons of the hit FX series. Starting with the Rubber Man from season one (Murder House), the trailer then shows a bleeding nun from season 2 (Asylum), witches and snakes from season 3 (Coven), a circus tent representing season 4 (Freak Show), and a woman with a key through her mouth for season 5 (Hotel).

The promo then shows more footage related to season 6, such as a terrifying creature scuffling over railroad tracks, bodies contorting in a grotesque fashion, and a 1950s B-Movie style clip of a woman screaming while being attacked by a rubber-suited monster.

The way in which the trailer references previous seasons of AHS ties into what series creator Ryan Murphy has said in the past about all the seasons being loosely connected. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly conducted during the show’s fourth season, Murphy stated “We’re just beginning to tell you how they’re connected. They’re all very separate but there’s clues every season that we’re now telling you how the different worlds are intertwined”.

It’s hard to tell so far how season 6 will fit into the bigger picture Murphy is talking about. Very little has been revealed, with the season not even receiving a subtitle in order to encourage more rumors and mass-guessing. What has been revealed is that many cast members from the previous seasons will be returning, including Evan Peters (X-Men: Apocalypse), Lily Rabe (The Good Wife), and Lady Gaga.

When it comes to the sixth season’s setting, most speculation seems to favor the Roanoke colony, an English settlement that disappeared under mysterious circumstances at the end of the 16th century. Spooky.

However, nothing will be known for sure until the season premiere on September 14th on FX. Even then, there’ll probably still be several surprises in store as the series continues.
