As production on the long-awaited return of The Gilded Age is still underway, new members are joining the cast and the roles they will take have been updated. According to Deadline, actors Merritt Wever (Run, Nurse Jackie), Leslie Uggams (American Fiction, Deadpool), Bill Camp (Sound of Freedom, 12 Years a Slave) and Lisagay Hamilton (The Practice, True Crime) will join The Gilded Age ensemble for season three.
The Gilded Age follows the lives of its characters as the world shifts into modern times; says mxdwn, the series “follows a young woman who moves in with her old-money aunts and quickly gets entangled in the social war between them and their new-money neighbors. In a world on the brink of the modern age, will she follow the rules of society or forge her own path.”
As fans enter season three, the official logline promises the following via Deadline: “The American Gilded Age was a period of immense economic and social change, when huge fortunes were made and lost overnight. With the old guard officially deposed, New York society finds itself turned upside down, and all must get their house in order. But even those at the helm of this new era may find that change comes at a cost.”
With the new ensemble, Wever is set to take on the role of Monica O’Brien, “the estranged sister of Bertha,” played by Carrie Coon (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Gone Girl), according to Deadline. Uggams will play Mrs. Ernestine Brown, a Black elite community member in Newport and friend of Elizabeth Kirkland.
Deadline states that Camp stars as JP Morgan, “who finds himself at odds with George Russell (Morgan Spector) over the future of the railroad industry.” Hamilton will take on the role of Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, “the famed Black suffragist who inspires Peggy (Denée Benton) to become involved in her cause, in spite of the dissenting opinions of those around her.”
Additional new actors gearing up for season three are Andrea Martin (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, My Big Fat Greek Wedding), Paul Alexander Nolan (Shapeshifter, Strike!), Hattie Morahan (Beauty and the Beast, The Bank Job) and Jessica Frances Dukes (Ozark, Jessica Jones).
The Gilded Age was renewed for season three back in December 2023, as per mxdwn. While a premiere date has yet to be announced, seasons one and two are available to watch on HBO and Max.
