After months of teasers, Netflix has finally unveiled a complete look at Season Two of their One Piece live-action series, including their portrayal of fan favorite character Tony Tony Chopper. The reveal, which occurred on Saturday as part of the company’s annual TUDUM event, was accompanied by an announcement that the character would be voiced by actress Mikaela Hoover (Guardians of The Galaxy, How I Met Your Mother), who also performed motion capture for the character.
Chopper, a talking reindeer that most commonly serves as the doctor for Luffy and his crew of Straw Hat Pirates, first appeared in Eiichiro Oda’s long-running One Piece manga series. He quickly became one of the series’ most beloved and recognizable characters, creating anticipation — and trepidation — among the fanbase for how Netflix would adapt the character. Netflix themselves have strung fans along for months now, showing brief glimpses of the design but eschewing a full reveal… that is, until now, when they showed the character in action during their TUDUM livestream.
Netflix’s official website gives some further hints as to what dynamic this version of Chopper will have within the company’s altered but relatively faithful adaptation of One Piece. “A blue-nosed reindeer-boy hybrid,” a press release accompanying the trailer reads, “Chopper is as smart as he is cute. With the ability to treat various illnesses, he aims to travel the world and accomplish his dream of curing any disease — which would certainly come in handy for our Straw Hat pirates. He’s also fiercely loyal, loves compliments (but doesn’t want you to know it), and wears his heart on his sleeve.”
Mikaela Hoover also shared some of her own thoughts about voicing the character with TUDUM, stating that “what excited (her) about playing Chopper is the tug of war between his standoffishness and his huge heart,” adding that she believes “there is a little Chopper in all of us.”
Season Two of Netflix’s One Piece will premiere in 2026, while Season One is available to stream now.
