Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for its highly anticipated teen psychological drama The Body. The release offers audiences a closer look at the upcoming eight-episode series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Watch the trailer here:

The Body follows an all-girls Catholic school dance troupe as they experiment with demonic rituals. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series logline reads: “After a dance-team initiation gone wrong, a group of badly behaved Catholic school girls begin having prophetic visions that set off mass hysteria in their town.”

Creator and showrunner Quinn Shephard (Blame, Not Okay) credits iconic ‘90s and early 2000s teen thrillers such as Carrie and Jennifer’s Body as inspiration. Shephard has said, “Tonally, I would describe the show as gritty camp. It’s a raunchy teen psychodrama with a dash of Catholic horror,” The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The newly released trailer shows just that, jumping between schoolgirl drama, dance sequences, and devilish imagery, with an equally intense soundtrack that captures the series’ turbulent energy.

The series will star Kristina Bogic (Playing Gracie Darling, Howl), Sara Boustany (Hello Beautiful, Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings), Geena Meszaros (Soul’s Road, Wayward), Nnamdi Asomugha (The Knife, The Good Nurse), Louisa Krause (You Can’t Win, Superman), Shirley Chen (Better Life, Slanted), Jackson Kelly (Leo on the wire, Midnight Drop), Sofia Wylie (The Map That Leads to You, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) and Gabby Windey (Peaked, The Bachelorette).

Additional cast members include Kyra Pierce (Chicago Fire, I Didn’t Mean to Go Mental), Phallon Pierce (Chicago Fire, An Alternative Method), Marcel Ruiz (Summer of Three, One Day at a Time), Orlando Norman (Your Fault: London, The Map That Leads to You), Ashley Madekwe (The Strays, Made for Love), Motell Foster (Tales from Beyond the Pale, La Cocina), Cale Ambrozic (Finding Her Edge, We Were Liars), Anna Tierney (Three Pines, Rider Republic), Chloe Longname (Unto Others), Sarah Abbott (Ginny & Georgia, Feel the Beat), Emily Roman (In the Eyes of Flies, The Next Step), Michela Luci (Brenda and Baxter, Dino Dex), Bella Neuspiel (Spirit in the Blood), Julia Lowe (Cruel Intentions, Holly Hobbie) and Christine Solomon (REIDframed, Jacir).
