According to Deadline, Netflix will not be continuing That 90s Show for season three. The information was revealed by Kurtwood Smith, who stated on Instagram that the show is currently looking for another streamer.
The canceling of the show occurred after the release of part three of the sequel series on August 22nd. The show has only issued two seasons in parts, known by the streamer as half-seasons. The first season included 10 episodes featuring previous stars such as Ashton Kutcher (Two and a Half Men, Your Place or Mine), Mila Kunis (Friends with Benefits, Ted) , Topher Grace (Spider-Man, Home Economics) and Wilmer Valderrama (Encanto, Handy Manny). A season two release, including parts two and three, totaling sixteen episodes, followed.
Part two, which was the second season’s premiere, was on June 27 and the That ’70s Show spinoff was only on the Netflix Top 10 list once during its first week of release. The release of part three was changed, originally set for October 24 but came out on August 22. The eight-episode part three drew under 1.9 million in the premiere, under 1.6 million in the first week and under 1.4 million for the second week.
The short run of That ’90s Show expands out of Netflix and fails the first multi-camera comedies. The Ranch, The Upshaws and Fuller House are the only Netflix shows with purposeful durations. That ’90s Show took most of its inspiration from Fuller House, continuing a story from the previous decade with the initial cast. Actors Debra Jo Rupp (Friends, WandaVision) and Smith (RoboCop, Rambo 3) return to their roles as Kitty and Red Forman, parents of Eric Forman, and transition to grandparents in the new show.
“I’ve loved every minute of getting to bring Grandpa Red to life for you all. I’ve said it before but it’s worth mentioning again…this show had so much heart behind it and the most wonderful cast, writers, directors, producers and crew an actor could hope to work with,” Smith wrote in his caption in an Instagram post. “Thanks for letting Red and Kitty, their grandkid, all their grandkids friends and neighbors, the original cast members of That 70’s Show and all of our wonderful guest cast members entertain you for two seasons. To steal Red Forman’s words…we aren’t going to be dumbasses…we will shop the show, because good grandparents would try hard to get these kids graduated from high school.”
Shopping for a new streaming service can be difficult for a Netflix original show. However, it was possible for one of Netflix’s other shows, the reboot of One Day At A Time, which was picked up by Pop, a cable network.
In That ’90s Show, Eric and Donna’s daughter Leia, played by Callie Haverda (The Lost Husband, Shut Eye), visits her grandparents in the summer of 1995 and makes new friends in the suburbs of Point Place.
The main cast includes Ashley Aufderheide (Infinitely Polar Bear, Emergence), Maxwell Acee Donovan (Good Kids, The Better Sister), Reyn Doi (Drama Club, The Boss Baby: Family Business) , Mace Coronel (Zoe Valentine, Colin in Black & White) and Sam Morelos (Forgetting Nobody, Descendants: The Rise of Red). The guest stars are Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy), Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2), Seth Green (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, It) and Matt Rife (Burb Patrol, Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything).
