Ryan Murphy, a megaproducer at Netflix who has brought series such as Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, is set to join Dana Walden at Disney by the end of his term at Netflix. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two have been friends since their days at 20th Century Fox, and Walden is now currently a Disney Entertainment co-chairman.
Murphy’s deal with Netflix will expire by the end of the month. Despite this new deal between Murphy and Disney not being one hundred percent confirmed and final yet, this deal would mean that Murphy will be working with John Landgraf (Reno 911!: Miami), who also worked at FX with Murphy, with which they formed a very close creative bond with one another. It has been said that this transition from Netflix to Disney has been in the works even before the Writers Guild of America Strike events had even taken place. Even though Disney has not given a statement about the matter, we can only concur with what this huge deal could mean and bring for the studio.
Murphy notably left 20th Century Fox in 2018 for Netflix, despite his claims of loyalty to be buried in the lot. However, through his early works, such as The Prom, Hollywood, and Halston, he was off to a very tumultuous start. However, his success found its way through his later works for Netflix, such as The Watcher and Dahmer, which he co-created with longtime creative collaborator Ian Brennan (The Watcher). Other notable Ryan Murphy works for Netflix include Ratched, Boys in the Band, and The Policeman. His 20th Century works include American Horror Story and 911 and the ongoing series Pose, Feud, and American Crime Story.
Even though he describes Disney as his “creative home,” he will continue Netflix’s series Monster, the next season to focus on the Menendez brothers.
