The upcoming Netflix original series Halston from Ryan Murphy (Hollywood, American Horror Story) has released its first official trailer, displaying actor Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting) in the titular role, according to Deadline. The original streaming series will be a miniseries based upon Steven Gaines’ novel, titled Simply Halston, and is created for television by Sharr White (The Other Place) with Murphy, McGregor, Daniel Minahan (Six Feet Under), and himself as executive producers on the project. Minahan is also accredited as the series’ director. Currently, the series is slated for release on Friday, May 14 for Netflix.
Halston will follow the life of the 1970s fashion designer and icon Roy Haston Frowick that sought out new clothing styles for women and was often at the forefront of pop culture and fashion during this decade. The series will navigate the rise of the designer in addition to his latter struggles with drugs and other forms of controversies during the heights of his success in New York City. McGregor as Halson leads the cast that includes Bill Pullman (Spaceballs, The Sinner), Vera Farmiga (The Departed), David Pittu (Men in Black 3), Krysta Rodriguez (Daybreak, Quantico), Gianfranco Rodriguez (Safe), Rebecca Davan (Vampires are Everywhere), Sullivan Jones (Wu-Tang: An American Saga), Kelly Bishop (Dirty Dancing), Maxim Swinton (Bull), and Rory Culkin (Signs, Scream 4).
The Netflix miniseries will release all five of its episodes on its premiere date. Halston will serve as McGregor’s return to television following his lead roles as Emmit and Ray Stussy for FX’s third season of Fargo. McGregor will also return to television in 2022 with his reprisal as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Disney+ series named after the Star Wars character.
