Netflix’s popular YA series Outer Banks has been renewed for a fifth season, Deadline reports. The streamer has shared the breaking news on Saturday at Poguelandia LA, which is fan event held annually, as part of the show’s press tour. Furthermore, Netflix confirmed that the fifth season will also be the last. The news comes right before the release of season four part two, and fans are eager to see the last quest that the Pogues will go on.
According to Deadline, in a fan letter, named “Dispatch to all Pogues,” written by co-creators and executive producers Jonas Pate (Surface, Shrink), Josh Pate (Deceiver, Blood & Oil), and Shannon Burke (Syriana, Asphalt City), they all explain the reasons behind the decision to brand the fifth season of Outer Banks as the last one. They also recalled the time when they got inspired to write the series by seeing a summer 2017 photo representing teenagers on a beach at dusk during a power outage.
“From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting, and friendship,” they said via Deadline. They also confessed that at the time they felt like, “it seemed impossible that we would really get to tell the whole five-season story.”
According to Deadline, the creators and executive producers trio stated that they are currently busy writing the last season’s storyline.
“With a little sadness, but also excitement, we’re putting Season Four behind us, and are turning to Season Five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago,” they continued via Deadline. “Season Five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet.”
According to Deadline, the Pate brothers and Burke signed off the letter “Pogues for Life” (“P4L”) and shared that season four was the “longest and hardest – but most rewarding – to produce.” They also teased that there will be “a feature-length” finale, and adding that “we think is our best, most powerful episode.”
Outer Banks‘ Season Four: Part One, according to Deadline, debuted at number one in the global top 10 English TV when it premiered on the streamer on Oct. 10. It stayed in the top 10 shows list for three weeks after its release. Furthermore, Outer Banks has spent 27 weeks in total on Netflix’s global top 10 English TV list.
Outer Banks‘ first three seasons and season four part one are now available to stream on Netflix. Season four part two will be released on Nov. 7.
