Actor Xavi de Guzman (Operation Christmas Drop, The 100) has been added as a recurring character in Netflix’s upcoming drama series Maid. According to Deadline, de Guzman joins leads Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, Death Note) and Nick Robinson (The 5th Wave, Everything, Everything).
According to Deadline, Maid is based on Stephanie Land’s (The Confident Parent) 2019 memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive. The show will star Qualley as Alex, a single mother who resorts to housekeeping to make ends meet. de Guzman will play the role of Ethan, a close friend of Robinson’s character Sean.
In addition to de Guzman, the supporting cast includes Anika Noni Rose (Jingle Jangle, Little Fires Everywhere), Tracy Vilar (The Steve Harvey Show, K-Pax), Billy Burke (Zoo, Revolution), and Qaulley’s real-life mother, Andie MacDowell (Groundhog Da, Ready or Not). This series marks the first time MacDowell and Qualley have been cast in the same project.
Maid is written and executive produced by showrunner Molly Smith Metzler (Shameless, Orange is the New Black) with John Wells Productions, LuckyChap Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Television attached as co-producers, via Deadline. Additional executive producers include Wells (The Company Men, ER), Erin Jontow (Shameless, Animal Kingdom), Tom Ackerley (I Tonya, The Last Days on Mars), Brett Hedblom (Everly, Dollface), Birds of Prey actress Margot Robbie (Dreamland, The Wolf of Wall Street) and Land.
According to Deadline, de Guzman has had roles across television and film including ABC & Netflix’s Designated Survivor, FXX’s comedy series Man Seeking Woman, and EPIX’s Get Shorty. His latest role was in the Netflix 2020 holiday film, Operation Christmas Drop. Directed by Martin Wood (Stargate: Continuum, A Summer to Remember), the Christmas rom-com starred Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games, Bad Boys For Life) and Kat Graham (The Holiday Calendar, How It Ends).
