Fran Tirado, who worked as Netflix’s lead brand and editorial strategist for LGBTQ+ content for the past 10 months, has announced his departure from the streaming powerhouse, according to The Hollywood Reporter. News of his leaving comes only week after The New York Times Sunday edition published an interview with Tirado that included a diary of his work week during the ongoing health pandemic.
Aside duties such as “catch up with the team running Ryan Murphy projects to talk through production updates,” and attending weekly meetings, the former Netflix executive’s role detailed other responsibilities, The Hollywood Reporter asserts. Some of them include working with collective of content creators for the company’s @Most social channel, keeping tabs on the promotional campaigns for shows and movies, and minding his own podcast, Food 4 Thot which covers topics ranging from sex, identity, culture, and the like.
However, sources confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter indicated that the interview sparked curiosity, among “other potential red flags.” Amid these allegations, a Netflix spokesperson only confirmed that he is no longer with the company.
Tirado, who has held top positions at publications Out and Hello Mr., failed to comment on the incident, only taking to Twitter to urge Netflix to consider staffing him in their writer’s room, “especially ones with queer/trans storylines,” he mentioned. He also bid farewell to Netflix’s editorial team and writer’s room who “were an absolute joy to work with and learn from.” There are no other details surrounding Tirado’s leave or if he will have another successor.
