Capping off its annual Geeked Week fan event, Netflix released the first teaser trailer for season two of Squid Game, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The teaser is available to watch below:
Starring Lee Jung-jae (The Acolyte, Hunt), Squid Game is a South Korean thriller executive-produced, written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk (Silenced, The Fortress). It follows hundreds of contestants competing in a series of children’s games in an attempt to win a massive cash prize. The catch is those who lose die. Season one ended with Lee’s character, Seong Gi-hun, winning but vowing revenge on the tournament’s Front Man, played by Lee Byung-Hun (I Saw the Devil, Emergency Declaration).
In the season two teaser, Gi-hun wakes in the middle of the night, surprised to find the Front Man outside his front door. He is also shown to be back in the game as Player 456. Several masked guards also appear, preparing to run a new series of games.
Netflix announced in July that Squid Game season two will premiere on December 26, 2024, with the show’s third and final season set to be released sometime in 2025.
“Seong Gi-hun, who vowed revenge at the end of season one, returns and joins the game again,” Hwang teased, per The Hollywood Reporter. “Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either. The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale in season three, which will be brought to you next year.”
In addition to the two aforementioned actors, Squid Game season two sees the return of Wi Ha-joon (The Worst of Evil, The Midnight Romance in Hagwon) as Hwang Jun-ho and Gong Yoo (Train to Busan, Coffee Prince) as the salesman. Newcomers to the cast include Yim Si-wan (Misaeng, Boyhood), Kang Ha-neul (Love Reset, When the Camellia Blooms), Park Gyu-young (A Good Day to Be a Dog, Celebrity), Lee Jin-uk (Sweet Home, Dear Hyeri), Park Sung-hoon (Queen of Tears, The Glory), Yang Dong-geun (Ruler of Your Own World, Nonstop), Kang Ae-sim (Open the Door, A Bedsore), Lee David (Be Positive, Law School), Choi Seung-hyun (Commitment, Iris), Roh Jae-won (Ms. Apocalypse, Missing Yoon), Jo Yu-ri (Idol School, Mimicus) and Won Ji-an (Heartbeat, Hope or Dope).
