One of the greatest nightmares for middle schoolers is summer camp and Big Mouth is here to prove it. It’s chaotic and dramatic, with the season four trailer of the Netflix series raining terror on puberty in comedic fashion. The new season will be coming to the streamer December 4, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Season four of Big Mouth will take place during the summer before eighth grade. Nick, Jessi, Andrew and the rest of the crew are off to Camp Mohegan Sun along with a new strain of puberty making its debut.
Hell hath no fury like Tito the Anxiety Mosquito, an evil monster introduced in the season four trailer. The freak out levels have never been higher as Nick and the others are being haunted by Tito as they go about navigating camp romance and all its complexities. The insect, voiced by Maria Bamford (Adventure Time) follows the kids around, nagging them with worries and stress which leads to meltdowns and tantrums.
Nick is voiced by writer and creator of the show Nick Kroll (The League), John Mulaney (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) voices Andrew, and Jessi Klein (Saturday Night Live) voices Jessi. Fan favorite characters are also back, with Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids) voicing Connie the Hormone Monstress as she causes emotions to run high and out of control amongst the pre-teens. Rudolph just won the Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance at the 2020 Emmy Awards for her work on the show.
The upcoming season also marks comedian Ayo Edebiri (Sunnyside) taking over the role of Missy. Jenny Slate (Obvious Child) originated the voice, but resigned from the role this summer. In a quote picked up by Entertainment Weekly, Slate explained: “Black characters on an animated show should be played by Black people.” Edebiri did not voice Missy for the entire fourth season, instead she’ll be introduced in the second to last episode and will continue on from there.
The season four trailer also marks the debut of several new characters voiced by well known comedians, including Zach Galifinakis (Baskets). He will be voicing Gratitoad, a toad who tries to help the kids battle the anxiety that takes the form of Tito the Mosquito. Seth Rogen (Long Shot) can also be heard in the trailer voicing the character of Seth Goldberg, one of the campers at Mohegan Sun. John Oliver (The John Oliver Show), Lena Waithe (Queen & Slim), Sterling K Brown (This Is Us) and Paul Giamatti (Billions) will all also be voicing new characters.
