Dichen Lachman (Jurassic World: Dominion, Severance) will be taking on the role of Avatar Yangchen, the Airbender Avatar before Aang. Dolly De Leon (Triangle of Sadness, Ghostlight) will portray twin characters Lo and Li, who serve as advisors for Princess Azula. Lily Gao (Slip, Twisted Metal) will be portraying Prince Zuko’s mother, Ursa. Terry Chen (Almost Famous, The Expanse) will play Aang’s first firebending master, the Deserter, Master Jeong Jeong, according to the Instagram post.
In addition, Jon Jon Briones (Ratched, American Horror Story) will play Sokka’s sword master, Piandao, and Tantoo Cardinal (Dances With Wolves, Killers of the Flower Moon) will portray the nefarious Puppermaster, Hama, in the show’s third season. According to the Instagram post, Madison Hu (The Brothers Sun, The Boogeyman) will be playing a new character named Fei.
Avatar Yangchen doesn’t appear in the original animated series until the series finale, but Netflix seems keen on introducing the past Avatars earlier in the narrative. The Netflix adaptation previously introduced Avatar Kyoshi and Avatar Kuruk in the first season, deviating from the animated show. Additionally, Master Jeong Jeong first appears in the first season of the animated series, so including him in the second season is yet another structural change made by Netflix.
Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender was a rousing success and the show was quickly renewed for both season two and three back in 2024 and mxdwn reported several season two cast announcements were made. There is currently no official release date for season two of the series. Season one is available on Netflix.
