Netflix Wins Big With Emmy Nominations, Tatiana Maslany Gets Her First Nomination, And More

The 2015 Emmy nominations have officially been announced.

For the first time ever, the nominations were announced at a later time, moving away from the crack of dawn for Los Angeles to a more reasonable 8:30 PST. Orange Is The New Black star Uzo Aduba and So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley announced the nominations for the 67th Emmy Awards.

As further proof of the evolution of television, Netflix and Amazon both received a handful of nominations for their original programmings. Netflix received 32 Emmy nominations beating out AMC at 24 and Showtime at 24. FX barely beat Netflix with 38. HBO made out with 126 nominations with the clear lead. Netflix has two shows competing for outstanding drama series: House Of Cards and Orange Is The New Black.

Amazon’s Transparent fared well, leading the comedy series with a total of 12 nominations. Transparent received a nomination for outstanding comedy series and Jeffrey Tambor was nominated for best lead actor in a comedy series for his role on Transparent. Also competing for outstanding comedy series is Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright both got lead actor and actress nominations for their roles on House Of Cards and new Netflix series Bloodline received a lead actor nomination for Kyle Chandler.

Other big news from the nominations was Tatiana Maslany getting her first nomination for lead actress in a drama series. Many people considered her lack of a nomination to be one of the biggest snubs from last year. Maslany plays several clones on BBC’s Orphan Black, often times playing them in the same scene as they are all main characters in the sci-fi series.

Game Of Thrones was another big winner, getting the most nominations of any series with a total of 24 including one for outstanding drama series. Game Of Thrones has yet to win this category despite being nominated every year since it has been on television.

It wasn’t rare to see newcomers nominated this year. New series Better Call Saul received a couple of nominations including one for outstanding drama series and one for lead actor in a drama series (Bob Odenkirk). The lead actor and actress nominations in comedy series were full of new faces including: Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent), Anthony Anderson (Black-ish), Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth), Amy Schumer (Inside Amy Schumer), and Lily Tomlin (Grace and Frankie).

Viola Davis and Taraji P. Henson were both nominated for lead actress in a drama series from their new shows How To Get Away With Murder and Empire respectively.

Andy Samberg from Brooklyn Nine-Nine will host the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards on September 20 and it will be broadcast by Fox. The list of nominations announced this morning are below. To view all the nominations, including those for writing, directing go here.
