Following Netflix’s ‘What We Watched‘ report, according to Deadline, one of the conclusions that people looking through the data discovered is young adult and female-leading content are posting strong viewership numbers. Though The Night Agent season one held the title for most total hours viewed, Ginny & Georgia was actually the most-watched title from January to June on Netflix, with a combined 967.2M hours viewed between seasons one (302.1 million views) and two (665.1 million views).
Ginny and Georgia wasn’t the only female led title to drive high viewership numbers. Netflix’s most-watched film from January to June of 2023 was the The Mother, staring Jennifer Lopez that was released in May. That film amassed nearly 250M hours viewed, placing it at No. 14 among all titles.
Queen Charlotte, collected 503M viewing hours debuting in May. The massive interested int he prequel made people rewatch the other two seasons of Bridgerton with over 133M hours viewed.
Wednesday debuted in November 2022, it continued to remain one of the most watched titles with more than 500M viewing hours from January to June. The series is Netflix’s most popular series of all time in the 91-day premiere window.
Outer Banks, Firefly Lane, You, Love Is Blind, Never Have I Ever, Emily In Paris and XO, Kitty are also among the most-watched English-language titles during this interval. For non-english titles, La Reina del Sur and the K-drama Crash Course in Romance were also among Netflix’s most-watched titles in this half of the year. Crash Course in Romance debuted in January, while all 60 episodes of La Reina del Sur became available on Netflix in May. The female revenge K-drama The Glory launched on Netflix in late December and became the third most-watched title in the first six months of the year with 622M hours viewed.
With these first set of reports, it makes sense why Ginny and Georgia, Wednesday, My Life With The Walter Boys, Outer Banks and other titles led by young adults and females are getting renewed for more seasons.
