Netflix and Scholastic Media announced they would begin streaming Clifford the Big Red Dog on February 14, which is also Clifford’s birthday.
The Emmy award winning animated children’s series stars Clifford, a giant red dog with a giant heart. The series is based on the best-selling book series by Norman Bridwell and was first published in 1963. So far, the series has expanded to include 127 million books in print and is loved by parents, teachers and kids.
“We are delighted to expand our relationship with Scholastic with the addition of Clifford, one of its most popular and timeless series,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer. “Globally recognized as the lovable role model that he is, Clifford is a great addition to our catalog of family-friendly TV shows.”
“For more than 50 years, through books and television, Clifford has become the world’s most beloved and iconic dog,” president of Scholastic Media and executive vice president of Scholastic Inc. Deborah Forte added. “We’re thrilled that with Netflix, children and families can watch Clifford anytime and anywhere.”
As part of the celebration, Clifford will close the NASDAQ MarketSite in New York City on February 18. Those Netflix users in Brazil will be able to stream the animated series in May.
