Netflix Teases Sketch Comedy Madness with ‘I Think You Should Leave’ Season 2 Trailer

After an announcement video earlier this month that featured Tim Robinson (Saturday Night Live, Detroiters) and Sam Richardson (Detroiters, Veep) singing medley of the musical moments from I Think You Should Leave’s first season, Netflix dropped the official trailer for the sketch comedy series’ second season on Tuesday. Rolling Stone fittingly described the trailer as “snippets of sketches populated by the same kind of overzealous weirdos that defined season one.”

Debuting in 2019, I Think You Should Leave found a cult-like audience with its style of absurdist humor that infused spiraling madness into everyday situations. IndieWire called the series “one of 2019’s most critically acclaimed comedies,” and it hailed from an all-star comedy team both on-camera and behind the scenes.

Saturday Night Live alums Robinson and Zach Kanin (Detroiters) serve as executive producers on I Think You Should Leave, which is put on by Andy Samberg’s (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Palm Springs) production company. Samberg’s Lonely Island cohort Akiva Schaffer (Saturday Night Live, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) directed a season one episode of the series, as did Portlandia’s Alice Mathias (Documentary Now!, Shrill).

The line-up of season one guest stars – including Samberg, Steven Yeun (Minari, The Walking Dead), Tim Heidecker (Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, Us), Vanessa Bayer (Trainwreck, Office Christmas Party), Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth, Nebraska), Cecily Strong (Ghostbusters, The Awesomes) and the late Fred Willard (Best in Show, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy) – gave the sketches of I Think You Should Leave a special flair. Tuesday’s trailer teased some upcoming appearances to be expected in the show’s sophomore season, including returning players such as Richardson, Heidecker and Patti Harrison (Together Together, Shrill).

New guests for season two include John Early (Search Party, Other People), Julia Butters (Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood, American Housewife), Paul Walter Hauser (Richard Jewell, I, Tonya) and former Saturday Night Live writers/performers Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul, Mr. Show), Mike O’Brien (A.P. Bio, 7 Minutes in Heaven), Gary Richardson (Shrill) and Brooks Wheelan (Big Hero 6: The Series).

Overall, Tuesday’s trailer gave just a taste of what fans can expect when the six-episode second season of I Think You Should Leave drops on Netflix on July 6. The thematic madness from season one remains in-tact, with one dinner-party sketch in the trailer even emulating the tone of Yeun’s gift-receipt sketch from season one. Paste Magazine got their hands on season two early and claims that the season’s quick-pace and zany charm make it perfect for repeat viewing.
