Netflix will be focusing some of its energy in the production of original sci-fi programming, as indicated today by the network’s announcement that a series called The I-Land, along with two others, will be making there way to the platform in the near future. However, the introduction of the series did not mark the only news to be released by the network, as they also announced the three cast members who will be heading the production: Kate Bosworth, Alex Pettyfer, and Natalie Martinez.
The I-Land will follow ten characters who have found themselves in a completely unfamiliar place and lack all memories regarding past experiences, emotions, and most importantly, their identities. However, the tribe decides to go on a trek to find “home”, a place that they have not even the slightest recollection of. The plot does not stop there, however, as the show is also set to take on science fictional elements in the world that is not quite the same as our own.
The 10 people are forced to take on a multitude of obstacles which test both their physical and emotional strength, but ultimately may serve as immensely taxing. Although it is not yet known exactly what the purpose of these tasks are to the series and characters, they have already taken on frightening connotations, promising danger to all who cannot complete them as desired.
KC (Bosworth), Brody (Pettyfer), and Natalie (Chase), are three of the members who make up the lost group; each forced to discover themselves while living in bodies that are not new- but completely unfamiliar- to them. Bosworth (21, Superman Returns, and Straw Dogs), is also set to serve as one of the producers of the series.
Alex Pettyfer can be seen in the films I am Number Four, Elvis and Nixon, and In Time. He hasn’t, however, played a recurring character in a television series prior to this new job, which may mark the beginning of a new era for the actor. Natalie Martinez, however, has already gained experience in television, having played regular roles in Under the Dome, CSI:NY, Kingdom, and The Crossing.
