Deadline has reported that the fifth and final season of Stranger Things will begin production in early January 2024. The production was previously delayed because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The scripts were finished and the series had almost been in production on May 2 when the WGA strike started.
According to various sources via Deadline, the target date for the start of production is either January 5 or January 8, although that is not guaranteed. Table reads are scheduled for next week and the cast is reportedly in Atlanta, where they film the series.
Last year, Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer (Wayward Pines, We All Fall Down) told to Deadline that they wanted the final season to “stick the landing”.
“Characters are already going to be in action, they’re already going to have a goal and a drive, and I think that’s going to carve out at least a couple hours and make this season feel really different,” Matt Duffer said according to Deadline. “I’m sure the wrap-up will be a lot longer, it’s going to be ‘Return of the King’-ish with, like, eight endings.”
Stranger Things debuted on Netflix on July 15, 2016. The series stars Millie Bobby Brown (Enola Holmes, Godzilla: King of the Monsters) as Eleven, Noah Schnapp (Hubie Halloween, The Peanuts Movie) as Will Byers, Finn Wolfhard (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, The Goldfinch) as Mike Wheeler, Caleb McLaughlin (Shooting Stars, Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Lucas Sinclair, Sadie Sink (Fear Street Part One: 1994, The Whale) as Max Mayfield, and Gaten Matarazzo (Honor Society, Prank Encounters) as Dustin Henderson.
The cast of Stranger Things also includes Joe Keery (Spree, Fargo) as Steve Harrington, David Harbour (Deadline) as Jim Hopper, Natalie Dyer (All Fun and Games, Things Heard & Seen) as Nancy Wheeler, Winona Ryder (Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice) as Joyce Byers, Charlie Heaton (The New Mutants, As You Are) as Jonathon Byers, and Maya Hawke (Do Revenge, Asteroid City) as Robin Buckley.
