Deadline reports that season three of Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias is set to premiere on July 20. The season will consist of 10 episodes. The series is based on the series of novels of the same name by Sheryl Woods (The Inn at Eagle Point, Home in Carolina).
Sweet Magnolias is about lifelong best friends Dana Sue, played by Brooke Elliott (Drop Dead Diva, Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings), Helen, played by Heather Headley (Respect, She’s Gotta Have It), and Maddie, played by Joanna Garcia Swisher (Reba, Freaks and Geeks). The three women were born and raised in Serenity, SC, a small southern town where everybody knows everybody’s business.
The second season ended with multiple cliffhangers. Although Dana Sue and Ronnie reunited, mystery-woman Kathy might cause issues for Dana Sue in the future. Dana Sue, Maddie, and Helen all ended season two in mourning over the death of Cindy Karr’s (Tooth Fairy 2, Bloodline) character Miss Frances.
After the fight at Sullivan’s in season three, Maddie struggles to figure out the best way to help Cal, played by Justin Bruening (Knight Rider, He’s Out There), and works through her own emotions. Dana Sue looks for a way to use a check from Miss Frances to help the community without upending her family. Other storylines from season the include the reveal of Serenity’s tire slasher, romantic surprises, and the recall causing unexpected consequences.
The series also stars Brandon Quinn (Big Wolf on Campus, On a Wing and a Prayer) as Ronnie Sullivan, Jamie Lynn Spears (Zoey 101, All That) as Noreen Fitzgibbons, Logan Allen (Creepshow, Stranger Things) as Kyle Townsend, Dion Johnstone (The Tempest, Ties That Bind) as Erik Whitley, Anneliese Judge (Where’s Rose, Sweet Magnolias) as Annie Sullivan, Chris Medlin (Diana, Pass the Light) as Isaac Downey, Chris Klein (Wilfred, The Flash) as Bill Townsend, and Carson Rowland (I Am Frankie, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin).
Series showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson (Charmed, Ties That Bind) executive produces with Woods, Dan Paulson (Passenger 57, Sunset Park), Matt Drake (Project X, Spin City), and Norman Buckley (Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars).
Season one of Sweet Magnolias was released on May 19, 2020 on Netflix.
