Deadline has reported that Netflix’s upcoming conspiracy thriller limited series Zero Day starring Robert De Niro (The Intern, Goodfellas) has added Connie Britton (The White Lotus, Dirty John), Lizzy Caplan (Freaks and Geeks, New Girl), Joan Allen (The Killing, The Twilight Zone), and Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad, Friday Night Lights). The series is created by Eric Newman (Children of Men, The Last Exorcism), Noah Oppenheim (Jackie, The Maze Runner), and Pulitzer Prize winner Michael S. Schmidt (Media Buzz, The Weekly). Oppenheim and Newman write the series.
The limited series is executive produced by Schmidt, Oppenheim, De Niro, Newman, Jonathan Glickman (Rush Hour, The Vow), and director Lesli Linka Glatter (Now and Then, Into the Homeland). It will consist of six episodes in total.
Zero Day explores how we find truth in a world of crisis and conspiracy theories that are seemingly out of our control and how much of a part we play in all of it.
De Niro plays George Mullen, a complicated and extremely popular American President. George is pulled from retirement to lead an investigation against a devistating global cyber-attack.
Caplan will play George’s daughter Alexandra Mullen. Alexandra is a young Congresswoman has sought to distance herself from her father’s political legacy. Caplan is represented by The Lede Company, Jackoway Austen Tyerman, WME, Rise Management, and Independent Talent Group.
Allen will play George’s wife, former First Lady nominee to the federal bench. Her professional goals take a backseat to her husband’s political career.
Britton will play George’s former Chief of Staff, Valerie Whitesell. Valerie is an intelligent and savvy political operative. Britton is represented by The Initiative Group, CAA, and Hansen Jacobson Teller.
Plemons will play George’s former “body man”, Roger Carlson, who is looking to return to the national stage with George.
Zero Day has reportedly been in production since November of 2022, but little else is still known about the series.
