Created by Jenny Han (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, The Summer I Turned Pretty), the first season of XO, Kitty debuted on Netflix on May 18th. According to Deadline, in the first few days that the series was released, it reached over 72 million hours viewed. Because of this and the show’s overall popularity, XO, Kitty was renewed for a second season.
XO, Kitty focuses on Kitty Song Covey who is played by Anna Cathcart (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Odd Squad). The character Kitty first made an appearance in the To All the Boys I’ve Loved movies as Lara Jean’s sister. In those movies, she served as a matchmaker for Lara Jean, played by Lana Condor (Moonshot, Boo, Bitch).
Now, in the spin-off series XO, Kitty, Kitty is no longer a side character. Rather, the series revolves around her own tribulations with relationships as she decides to move to South Korea to attend KISS, which stands for the Korean Independent School of Seoul. Part of the reason that she makes this decision is to reunite with her boyfriend named Dae, played by Minyeong Choi (Entertainer, Mr. Sunshine).
However, when the reunion does not go as planned, she perseveres and uses this as an opportunity to continue finding herself, discovering new things, and meeting new people.
Throughout the season, she begins to also have feelings for Min Ho, played by Sang Heon Lee (Gran Turismo), as well as Yuri, played by Gia Kim (Happy Ending). For both Gia Kim and Sang Heon Lee, XO, Kitty serves as one of their first larger acting roles.
Other stars of the show include Anthony Keyvan (Alexa & Katie, Love, Victor) as Q, Peter Thurnwald (Bump, Kong: Skull Island) as Alex, Jocelyn Shelfo (May December, The Summer I Turned Pretty) as Madison, and more.
The first season concluded with Kitty traveling back to the United States without resolving the love square she has found herself in with Dae, Min Ho, and Yuri.
Now that XO, Kitty has been renewed for a second season, fans can look forward to seeing how Kitty continues to navigate her complicated love life.
