The Netflix original series Locke and Key has received a third season renewal on the streaming platform, according to Variety. This announcement comes from the streaming giant prior to the release of the series’ second season. Adapted from a comic book series under the same name, the series was developed for Netflix by Meredith Averill (The Good Wife, Jane the Virgin), Aron Eli Coleite (Heroes), and Arthur Carlton Cuse (Lost). The series’ first season premiered in February 2020 and consisted of ten episodes.
Locke and Key follows the mother and children of the Locke family who has moved to their father’s family estate following his murder. Upon their entrance into the residence, the remaining Locke family members uncover sets of keys that allow entrance to magical pathways and supernatural forces that exist within their house. The series cast features Darby Stanchfield (Mad Men, Scandal) as the mother Nina Locke, Emilia Jones (Doctor Who) as daughter Kinsey Locke, Connor Jessup (American Crime) as the son Tyler Locke, and Jackson Robert Scott (It Chapter One) as the youngest son Bode Locke. The main cast is rounded out by Griffin Gluck (American Vandal, Big Time Adolescence) and Laysla De Oliveira (In the Tall Grass).
Currently, season two of Locke and Key is finishing up its production and is anticipating a premiere in 2021. The newly announced third season will begin its production in the early stages of the next calendar year. For interested television fans, check out the first season trailer below:
