Netflix has renewed the Danish-produced original Ragnarok for a second season. Despite the first season premiering on January 31, the service has given the greenlight for the series on Twitter alongside a promotional poster.
Ragnarok, stars David Stakston (Magne), Jonas Strand Gravli (Laurits), Herman Tømmeraas (Fjor), and Theresa Frostad Eggesbø (Saxa). Produced by the Danish SAM Productions, the series follows the story of Magne, a troubled teenager who moves to the fictional Norwegian town of Edda with his mom, Turid, and brother, Laurits. However, the inhabitants of Edda may not be who they appear to be.
The plot of the first season revolves around Magne’s realization that he is the embodiment of the Norse god Thor. The six-episode season mainly follows Magne’s discovery of his powers and his battles against the Jötunn, a race of giants who have been masquerading as a family in the town.
The first season received a 7.6 on IMDb and a 75 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Most critics criticized the series’ “Twilight-style” writing as well as the fast pacing. The series has also received mixed reviews by Norwegian media, with many noting that the series felt more like a Danish series rather than Norwegian. Additionally, the characters do not speak the dialect typical of Western Norway, despite the series’ setting.
Details regarding the plot of the second season have not yet been released. However, it has been teased that Laurits, Magne’s brother, may be the embodiment of the trickster god Loki. No release or production date has been confirmed yet.
