Dearest reader, take heart! Netflix‘s adaptation of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series has been renewed for second season. The announcement comes less than a month after the first season’s premiere on Christmas Day. (TVLine)
According to TVLine, Netflix announced the renewal of the series with a letter from the series’ gossip, Lady Whistledown herself, along with an edited video of clips from season one across their social media platforms.
Bridgerton, created by Chris Van Dusen (producer, Scandal), follows the titular family from the books as they navigate the social season in the Regency-era by attending balls, avoiding scandal, and falling in love. All the actions of both the Bridgerton’s and the rest of the town are reported on by Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews, The Sound of Music) in her gossip letter, causing the rise or fall of any family she writes about. While Lady Whistledown was unmasked to the audience at the conclusion of season one, it is expected that she will continue to control the opinion of the Bridgerton world in season two.
The first season of Bridgerton largely focused on Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor, Younger) and Simon’s (Regé-Jean Page, Mortal Engines) love story based on the first novel in the series, The Duke & I. Netflix has announced that the second season will focus on Anthony (Jonathan Bailey, Broadchurch), the eldest Bridgerton child and main character of series’ second book, The Viscount Who Loved Me, as he searches for a wife.
Via TVLine, the series has remained on Netflix’s Top 10 list since the first season’s eight episodes released. With many intimate scenes, some suspected the second season would be difficult to film amidst the Covid-19 global pandemic. However, the Lady Whistledown Society Paper announcement confirms that the second season will begin production in Spring 2021. Despite this, the second season may not be released for quite some time, so fans of Bridgerton must take Whistledown’s advice and remember “patience, after all, is a virtue”.
