According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has renewed anthology series Black Mirror for an eighth season. Created by Charlie Brooker (Cunk on Britain, Fifteen Million Merits), who is setting up the new set of episodes for the dystopian anthology series that is known for being Netflix’s longest-running series.
“I can confirm that Black Mirror will return, just in time for reality to catch up with it,” Brooker said via The Hollywood Reporter, in a just-posted article on Netflix’s Tudum site. “So, that’s exciting. That chunk of my brain has already been activated and is whirring away.”
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Brooker states that the new season will follow his traditional thought process of: “Well, what haven’t we done yet, and what tone am I looking for?” “It’s a useful thought experiment when approaching a new story,” he added. “Where does this track come on the album, and what musical direction are we going to go into?”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Booker has yet to disclose who will be in the news season of the eighth season or what type of tone the season will be. He previously defined the seventh season as “‘Red Mirror’ in that we had more horror and less emphasis on tech-related storylines.”
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Black Mirror has been on the air for almost 15 years, having started on Channel 4 before switching to Netflix after two seasons in 2016. Booker headed to the Golden Globes where the seventh season of the series was nominated for Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television, while Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation, I Love You, Man) and Paul Giamatti (Big Fat Liar, The Holdovers) both have nods in the limited series acting categories.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Black Mirror is a British sci-fi anthology series exploring techno-paranoia, with each standalone episode presenting dark, satirical, and suspenseful tales. All episodes of Black Mirror are available to stream on Netflix.
