Netflix has unveiled the first teaser clip of its upcoming live-action The Addams Family spinoff series titled Wednesday, according to Deadline. The teaser clip was released Monday as part of Netflix’s Geeked Week, during which news about the streamer’s series like The Umbrella Academy and Stranger Things will be revealed.
The Addams Family originated as a series of cartoons throughout the 20th century, before coming to life in the 1964 television series, which centered around the close-knit, albeit unconventional family. Since then, it’s been adapted into several television and film adaptations – the most recent being a 2021 film starring Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight), Nick Kroll (Big Mouth) and Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass).
The upcoming Netflix series adaptation, starring Jenna Ortega (You) as Wednesday Addams, will follow the character during her years at Nevermore Academy as she discovers and perfects her psychic abilities while also solving a longstanding supernatural mystery. Catherine Zeta-Jones (The Mask of Zorro), Luis Guzmán (Cleaner), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Christina Ricci (Casper), Hunter Doohan (Soundwave) and Joy Sunday (Shithouse) will star alongside Ortega.
Tim Burton (The Nightmare Before Christmas) executive produces Wednesday with Al Gough (Smallville) and Miles Millar (Smallville).
