Many months after the announcement of the second season and the new cast announcements, the trailer is finally here. According to Deadline, a new trailer has been released for the second season of Netflix’s Shadow and Bone. The show is based on Leigh Bardugo’s (Ninth House, Demon in the Wood) Shadow and Bone trilogy and also introduces characters from her Six of Crows books.
The trailer picks up where the last season left off. It begins with General Kirigan, played by Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia, The Punisher), coming out of the darkness of The Fold with large scars across his face and an army of shadow creatures. Alina Starkov, played by Jessie Mei Li (Last Night in Soho, All About Eve), is disappointed by his survival as she realizes that she is the only one who can stop him and put an end to the darkness that has enveloped Ravka for so long. But to succeed against Kirigan, she will need the help of Mal Oretsev, played by Archie Renaux (Morbius, Voyagers), and together they must embark on a journey to find the Amplifiers, two objects that come from mythical creatures and help amplify and boost Alina’s power.
According to Deadline, the Crows are coming back for the new season. News of the chaos going on in Ravka reaches the ports of Ketterdam. A deadly heist is offered to Kaz, played by Freddy Carter (Free Rein, Pennyworth), and the Crows. Their new heist will lead them to collide once again with Alina and her quest to defeat Kirigan.
Other cast members returning for the second season are Daisy Head (Harlots, Wrong Turn) as Genya Safin, Alina’s closest Grisha friend; Lewis Tan (Deadpool 2, Mortal Kombat) making his debut as Tolya Yul-Bataar, a supporter of the Sun Summoner; Anna Leong Brophy (Traces, Last Tango in Halifax) on her first appearance as Tamar Kir-Bataar, a trained warrior whose mission is to protect Alina; Patrick Gibson (Before We Die, The OA) stars as Nikolai Lantsov; Amita Suman (The Outpost, The Sandman) as Kaz’s second in command Inej Ghafa; Kit Young (The School for Good and Evil, The Origin) plays the Crow’s favorite sharpshooter Jesper Fahey; Danielle Galligan (Lakelands, The Great) stars as the young Grisha Heartender Nina Zenik; newcomer Callahan Skogman will return as the Fjerdan Grisha hunter Matthias Helvar; and Jack Wolfe (The Witcher, Hetty Feather) will star as the newest member of the Crows Wylan Hendriks.
Shadow and Bone follows Alina Starkov, a common soldier in Ravka’s army who is part of a team trying to cross the Fold, a dark barrier filled with monsters between the mainland Ravka and the sea. Alina is accompanied by her friend Malyen ‘Mal’ Oretsev, and while crossing, Mal gets attacked and Alina uses her undiscovered powers to save him. At the discovery of her light-wielding powers, Alina is taken to the commander of the Grisha forces General Kirigan, who leads an army of soldiers with magical powers, known as the Grisha. At the discovery of her sun-summoning powers, Alina’s life changes drastically. Now she has to learn who she can trust and who is trying to darken her light.
The new season of Shadow and Bone will premiere on March 16 exclusively on Netflix. The first season of the show is available on the streaming platform. Don’t forget to watch the long-awaited trailer below.
