Netflix has just released the official trailer teaser for The Witcher: Blood Origin. The four-part prequel series premiers on Netflix December 25th.
Fans were first able to get a taste for the spin-off when a teaser was revealed during the credits of the season two finale in 2021.
Netflix provided the following description of the prequel:
“The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell a tale lost to history: the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that led to the pivotal Conjunction of the Spheres, when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one. This four-part prequel series premieres on Netflix on 25 December.”
Set 1200 years before Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, The Witcher: Blood Origin focuses on a new trio. Scían, played by Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere all at Once), is the last member of a nomadic tribe of sword elves on a mission to reclaim a blade that was stolen from her people. Fjall, portrayed by Laurence O’Faurian (Vikings), and singing warrior Éile, played by Sophia Brown (Giri/ Haji) are members of rival clans.
The trailer showcases swordmaster Scían in action (Michelle Yeoh), as a song sung by Éile serenades in the background.
The prequel series was originally anticipated to be six episodes, but it has since been reduced to four. The four part prequel series is the latest addition to the popular fantasy franchise. Based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels and the renowned video game franchise, season one of The Witcher first hit Netflix in December 2019.
Release of the official trailer follows the news that Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, Enola Holmes) will not be returning as Geralt of Riva in season four of The Witcher. It was revealed that Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) will be taking over the role of Geralt.
Seasons one and two of The Witcher are currently streaming on Netflix. Season three is in production, set to air Summer 2023, via Netflix’s Tudum.
