Netflix has released the main trailer for the fourth season of The Diplomat, starring Keri Russell (The Americans, Felicity, Cocaine Bear) as Kate Wyler. According to Deadline, the upcoming season will see lot of tension between Kate, her husband Hal Wyler, played by Rufus Sewell (The Man in the High Castle, The Holiday, Old), and President Grace Penn, played by Allison Janney (The West Wing, Mom, I, Tonya).
The trailer reveals that Kate discovers Hal and Grace conspired to steal a powerful weapon from a Russian submarine. Kate then confronts Hal over the decision and expresses concern about the danger posed by him working alongside Grace.
Season four will follow the fallout from the conspiracy as Kate attempts to prevent the situation from escalating further. The conflict also threatens the fragile peace she helped establish between the United States and United Kingdom, as well as her already strained marriage to Hal. Kate will also form an uneasy alliance with Todd Penn, played by Bradley Whitford (The West Wing, Get Out, The Handmaid’s Tale), as the pair attempt to stop Hal and Grace from further disrupting the balance of power.
Sewell returns as Hal, while Janney reprises her role as President Grace Penn. Janney recently earned an Emmy for her performance in the series, winning Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Ato Essandoh (Jason Bourne, Blood Diamond, Away), Ali Ahn (Agatha All Along, Billions, Supernatural) and Nana Mensah (The Chair, Queen of Glory, Farewell Amor) also star.
The Diplomat was created by Debora Cahn (The West Wing, Homeland, Grey’s Anatomy), who serves as showrunner and executive producer. Russell, Janice Williams (All Good Things, The Final Girls, Trumbo), Alex Graves (Game of Thrones, The West Wing, Homeland), Peter Noah (The West Wing, Scandal, Madam Secretary) and Eli Attie (The West Wing, House, Billions) also executive produce.
The premiere date for season four of The Diplomat is on October 15 on Netflix.
