Netflix just released a teaser trailer for the upcoming second season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and it leaves us wanting more.
As a teaser, the trailer leaves a lot to the imagination. Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper), Titus (Titus Burgess), and Jacqueline Voorhes (Jane Krakowski) strut their stuff in what looks like more of an advertisement for fashion week than a TV preview. We don’t have any indication of what to expect from the new season aside from the obvious like more awkward social encounters, a ridiculous amount of enthusiasm and optimism, and hopefully another musical number from Titus.
During the Netflix panel at the Television Critics Association in January, TVGuide reports Tina Fey, one of the co-creators and executive producers for the show, said we can expect to see Kimmy dealing with “deeper emotional and life issues” in season 2. Fey also announced she will make another guest star appearance as Marcia Clark, Titus will pursue a “real grown-up relationship,” and Jacqueline will try to lead an independent life with the money she received in her divorce once she returns to New York. “They’re giving her opportunities to grow into a fully formed human being this season,” Krakowski said. “She has a greater understanding of what the world is about at the end of this season. Twelve million is not a lot of money!”
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt follows the title character, Kimmy Schmidt, who has lived in a religious cult for most of her life until the FBI found her and several other “mole women” living in an underground bunker. The series tactfully dances around Kimmy’s dark past, although they imply she was a victim of domestic abuse. Instead of being regarded as one of the women the FBI found living underground, Kimmy is determined to lead a (somewhat) normal life in New York City, even though she didn’t finish middle school. In New York she meets her new roommate Titus and starts working for Jacqueline Voorhes as a nanny.
Season 2 hasn’t been released yet, but Netflix has already renewed Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt for a third season. According to TVGuide, Netflix announced the third season renewal during the TCA panel
