According to Deadline, Netflix released a teaser for the second season of the Shadow and Bone series. Fantasy fans have been waiting for news regarding the new season of the TV show for over a year. The teaser trailer for season two was part of the announcements made at Tudum, Netflix’s global fan event. It was also announced that the new season is coming out in 2023.
The show’s first season is an adaptation of the first book of the Shadow and Bone series written by Leigh Bardugo. The second season will be adapted from the second book in the series Siege and Storm. When the show first came out in 2021, it was an instant hit with the fans of the novels who praised it for the accuracy of the adaptation.
The TV series has been a great success thanks to the fans of the novels written by Bardugo. The fans have praised the casting of the show, highlighting the choice of actors for their favorite characters. The show was also praised for the introduction of fan-favorite characters that, while in the same literary universe, don’t show up in the original book series.
Part of the announcement made at Tudum was the introduction of new characters in the series and confirmation of which actors will be playing them. According to Deadline, the new characters are the siblings Tolya played by Lewis Tan (Deadpool 2, Mortal Kombat) and Tamar played by Anna Leong Brophy (Traces, Last Tango in Halifax); the prince Nikolai played by Patrick Gibson (Before We Die, The OA); and joining the Crows is Wylan played by Jack Wolfe (The Witcher, Hetty Feather).
The first season ended with Alina, played by Jessie Mei Li (Last Night in Soho), going into hiding because of her unique powers. She was accompanied by her childhood friend Mal played by Archie Renaux (Morbius, Voyagers). During the final episodes, Alina discovers that she cannot trust anyone. She is betrayed by General Kirigan, played by Ben Barnes (The Punisher). Alina, who once thought of him as a friend, discovers his cruel intentions at the end of the season.
Alina, and the audience, have yet to see if these new characters are going to be friends or foes in this new season that is dropping in 2023. Don’t forget to watch the trailer below.
