For lovers of the critically acclaimed 2010 indie movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, today is a happy day! Netflix has released the first official teaser trailer for the movie’s first spinoff, returning as an animated series on Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The series is titled Scott Pilgrim Takes Off and all of the characters from the original live-action film, will be voicing their animated counterparts. The iconic band from the film, Sex Bob-Omb is returning, only this time, animated! Check out the teaser trailer below.
The original movie, created by filmmaker Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, Last Night in Soho), was based on the graphic novels by author Bryan Lee O’Malley. Netflix revealed within the teaser, that the style of the animation in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off will be following that of which O’Malley originally wrote the graphic novels.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off will follow the eclectic hero and main character that the series is named after, Scott Pilgrim. Michael Cera (Barbie, Arrested Development) will return to voice Scott Pilgrim. The Hollywood Reporter calls Scott Pilgrim “a Toronto 20-something musician who falls for a mysterious woman named Ramona Flowers.” Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, 10 Cloverfield Lane) will voice Ramona Flowers. In order to date Ramona, Scott must defeat her seven “Evil Exes” before he’s granted serenity with Ramona.
The Hollywood Reporter makes it evident that the animated series will follow similar events to that of which occurred within the film. Iconic scenes such as Scott and Ramona talking on the swing-set in the snow and Scott’s band, Sex Bob-Omb, having troublesome rehearsals.
Alongside O’Malley, Wright and BenDavid Grabinski (Happily, Are You Afraid of the Dark?) serve as executive producers, writers and co-showrunners. The big draw for audiences to watch Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is the reuniting of the original film cast, which grew to be a cult classic. Some of today’s biggest names in film and television starred in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World back in 2010 when it got its theatrical release, and those stars are now household names. Returning to voice their characters are Aubrey Plaza (The White Lotus, Parks and Recreation), Chris Evans (Before We Go, Free Guy), Brie Larson (Short Term 12, Room) and Kieran Culkin (Succession, Home Alone)!
All eight episodes are set to release on Netflix on November 17.
