Deadline reports that Netflix has slated March 20, 2025, as the premiere date for their new drama series, The Residence. The show, which hails from Shondaland, will be a murder mystery comedy-drama starring Uzo Aduba (Painkiller, In Treatment) and Randall Park (It’s Florida, Man, Krapopolis).
Using Kate Andersen Brower’s (First Women: The Grace & Power of America’s Modern First Ladies, Elizabeth Taylor: The Grit and Glamour of an Icon) book The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House as a jumping-off point, the Netflix series is described as a “screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs and backstairs of the White House,” among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.
Aduba stars as Cordelia Cupp, a consulting detective for the Metropolitan Police Department. Known for her wry humor, relentless pursuit of truth and a sharp eye for human behavior, Cupp is the most sought-after detective in the world — and an avid birder to boot. Park portrays FBI Special Agent Edwin Park, tasked with partnering with Cupp during a high-stakes State Dinner. While Park harbors skepticism about Cupp’s unconventional methods, their dynamic promises to be as intriguing as the mystery they seek to unravel.
The series also stars Giancarlo Esposito (The Boys, Breaking Bad), who succeeds Andre Braugher (American Experience, The Good Fight) following Braugher’s untimely death, along with Edwina Findley (The Power, Life by Ella), Molly Griggs (The Good Doctor, New Amsterdam), Jason Lee (The Harper House, We Bare Bears), Ken Marino (Solar Opposites, Monster High), Al Mitchell (Outer Banks, Genius), Dan Perrault (Players, American Vandal), Bronson Pinchot (Our Flag Means Death, Strange Planet), Julieth Restrepo (Griselda, News of a Kidnapping) and more.
Paul William Davies (For The People, Scandal) serves as creator, showrunner, writer and executive producer. Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, Bridgerton) and Betsy Beers (Inventing Anna, Station 19) also executive produce.
