The announcement for the biopic show Selena The Series came out in August of this year. However, a newly released trailer gave audiences an inside tease for what’s to come in the series. The trailer see below displays Christian Serratos (The Walking Dead) in full character with one of Selena’s songs, Como La Flor (Like the Flower) playing in the background. It continues to present all the aspects that famously makes up Selena’s signature look and ends with Selena performing center stage.
Selena: The Series, which will be split into parts. Part one will be divided into 6 one hour long episodes and will focus on the real-life story of the late Selena Quintanilla, from her humble beginnings to her rise to stardom as a Tejano singer during the early to mid 1990s and the events that will lead up to the singer’s untimely death, with Serratos set to play the leading lady. Jaime Davilla, Rico Martinez, Suzette Quintanilla, Simran A. Singh, and Mosies Zamora are set to Executive Produce the series and the major cast members that have been listed so far to include actors Gabriel Chavarria (War for the Planet of the Apes), Ricardo Chavira (Desperate Housewives), Noemi Gonzalez (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones), and Seidy Lopez (Training Day).
Campanario Entertainment company (a company who works are heavily rooted in Hispanic films and television shows) that decided to proceed in the producing of the show was interested in the project because “Selena is an inspirational figure who’s transcended generations… fans everywhere will be captivated yet again by Selena’s incredible life.” Said Campanario’s President and Co-founder, Jaime Davila. The filming for the series has rumored to begin sometime next month according TV Guide and Part 1 of the series is set to debut on Netflix’s platform sometime in the 2020 with Part 2 of the series aired date as well as filming schedule having yet to be determined. The filming for Part 1 of the series will not affect Serratos appearance on her current show, The Walking Dead, where she has played the character of Rosita Espinosa since 2014.
Other iterations of Selena include the 1997 film that debuted Jennifer Lopez’s career as the late singer.
