Matt Groenig, the creator of The Simpsons and Futurama, is coming out with a new adult animated series called Disenchantment. Groening originally made the announcement of the creation of the Disenchantment last year. His new show will be streamed on Netflix and is set in a place called Dreamland. Dreamland itself is a kingdom (that is not too well off) within a medieval fantasy world. Groenig has already inked a twenty-episode deal with Netflix (the first season will be ten episodes).
Here is the comedic trailer:
After pulling back the hood of the person the king calls “no-good pile of scum,” he releases that it is his daughter, princess Bean. She is described as a “hard-drinking” princess. Meaning that unlike most princesses, she has a drinking problem. The series will showcase her and both of her companions: an elf named Elfo and a demon named Luci. Nat Faxon (a comedy actor and Oscar winning screenwriter) will voice Elfo, Eric Andre (actor and television host) will voice Luci, and Abbi Jacobson (comedian, actress, and writer) will be the voice of Bean.
Disenchantment is said to take a comedic approach to fantasy tropes. Also, as stated in the beginning of the trailer, will be set in the past of its counterparts Futurama (set in the future) and The Simpsons (set in the present). Groening’s new series also becomes his first new adult animated television show since Futurama first aired in 1999. The first season will begin streaming on Netflix on August 17th.
