Netflix Picks Up Non-Exclusive Rights Of All Three Seasons Of Drama Series ‘Warrior’ After Being Cancelled By Max

After Max just released the drama series Warrior’s third season last June, the platform announced its cancellation in December 2023, according to Deadline. Furthermore, Netflix has stated that the platform will pick up the non-exclusive rights to the show’s 3 seasons.

Based on the original concept created by Bruce Lee (Fist of Fury, The Way of the Dragon), the show is executive produced by his daughter Shannon Lee (The Legend of Bruce Lee, How Bruce Lee Changed the World) and showrunner Jonathan Tropper (Banshee).

This wasn’t the show’s first trip to another platform. It was first released on Cinemax in 2019 and then moved to Max after the platform canceled the show following the release of its second season.

According to an exclusive statement to Deadline, Tropper shared some hints on the show’s future: “Warrior is a show that simply refuses to die. Through platform and regime changes, the writers, producers, cast, crew, and our stunt team continued to make something powerful, relevant, and wildly unique. And now, thanks to Netflix, we’ve been given yet another lease on life, and I’m thrilled for everyone involved that millions more viewers around the world will discover it.”

The show Warrior is set during the times of the brutal Tong Wars in the Chinatown suburb of 19th-century San Francisco. The series follows the story of Ahm Sahm, a martial arts performer who emigrates from China to San Francisco for unknown reasons. After showing off his skills in martial arts, Ahm Sahm ends up becoming the right hand of the Hope Wei, one of Chinatown’s most powerful crime organizations.

According to Deadline, Netflix has exclusively shared that if the show does well on its platform, it could be possibly picked up for a new season, always based on the original concept by Bruce Lee. The series is set to debut on Netflix in February 2024.
